Legal Aid Alberta attracts lawyers with a Plainpeak marketing campaign

Legal Aid Alberta is currently going through a process off strategic and tactical business development to improve its partner relations with existing roster lawyers. The Counsel Connection Campaign communicates and advertises Legal Aid Alberta’s paradigm shift in dealing with lawyers. This new approach takes the changed marketplace into consideration and acknowledges that LAA lawyers are essential to LAA’s future success.

The campaign is currently unfolding through a series of events, online communication and direct marketing activities.

Plainpeak is responsible for the entire Council Connection Campaign development and roll-out including research assessment, strategic planning as well as concept design and implementation.

Plainpeak accelerates City of Edmonton website renewal

Plainpeak recently supported the renewal project of the City of Edmonton with consulting and technical support. Together with our partner Yellow Pencil Inc. Plainpeak provided vital consulting services for the design, structure and architecture of the new City of Edmonton website. Furthermore Plainpeak developed and provided a specialized tool to perform the content migration (moving content form the existing site to the new site) in record time and with increased quality and greatly reduced cost compared to 'traditional' website migrations.

Plainpeak helps University of Alberta to improve website performance

The University of Alberta’s web team was riddled by technical problems with their public web hosting environment. In recent years, the server environment was faced with continuously increasing traffic, recently resulting in frequent system crashes with significant downtimes for the hosted sites (i.e. U of A home page!). For a long time the team wasn’t able to locate the cause of the seemingly random crashes, even the consultation of experts from the vendors of the software used in the environment had trouble locating the cause for the increasing system failures. The constant monitoring and dealing with crash situations wasn’t just inconvenient for the users of the various sites but by capturing extra capacity for system monitoring, testing and re-starting, also caused the web team to not be able to focus on their main tasks of updating content and implementing new sites.

Plainpeak approached the problem in an unconventional but highly efficient way. A custom developed web traffic load tester was used to simulate the exact situations that caused recent crashes in a separate testing environment. Plainpeak’s system engineers were able to identify several structural and procedural issues in and around the custom developed content management system. In close collaboration with the U of A web team, Plainpeak was able to identify and fix the malfunctioning elements within less then two weeks. As a result, the U of A web team can now focus on their actual job: developing and publishing content and adding more sites to the system. Most importantly, when the new semester arrived the U of A’s public websites was well prepared to serve thousands of visitors without any downtime.
